Incredibly kind words from Insound…
NEW BAND OF THE WEEK! Insound staffers seek out new music constantly. Between the hundreds of music submissions we get per week and the new bands and labels we’re always reaching out to, we stumble upon some really great stuff. Each week, we will be picking one lesser-known band that we particularly love. This week, Nicole falls in love with the lush, evergreen soundscapes of Ever Isles.
When a large part of your friends are music-obsessed, it’s a rare thing to be the first person among them to have heard of a band. It’s much, much (MUCH) more rare to share this band with said friends and have it be universally loved. Ever Isles is that rare forest floor flower that will mystify and confound you into submission.
“Bodii” - the opening track on Cocoon - is the first one most people would encounter when listening on their bandcamp page and listening to it is like being put into an immediate trance. I am not a guitar player, so I can’t tell you how they make the guitar sounds that they make. I can tell you that thumping acoustic chords soon make way for lightning-quick arpeggios which then all get washed over with climbing vocal harmonies that are straight-up breathtaking. It sounds like magic.
Putting any more words to this album seems wrong in a way. I think it’s something that needs to be experienced rather than explained. And now that it’s on vinyl, you can experience it in our favorite way: on your turntable.
